Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a peroxidase that catalyzes the conversion of chloride and hydrogen peroxide to hypochlorite, producing a potent antimicrobial effect. Myeloperoxidase is present in granulocytes and monocytes and cells of myeloid lineage in the bone marrow. Anti-myeloperoxidase immunohistochemistry is useful for identification of benign and malignant myeloid cell populations, including acute myeloid leukemia.1-5
