Anti-HMB45 is a marker that reacts with antigens present on immature melanosomes. MART-1, also known as Melan A, is a melanocyte differentiation antigen present in melanocytes of normal skin, retina, nevi, and most melanomas. Tyrosinase is an enzyme which is involved in the biosynthesis of melanin expressed in epidermal melanocytes, pigmented epithelia of the eye, and most melanomas. The cocktail of Anti-HMB45/MART-1/Tyrosinase reactivity seen in melanomas makes this combination a useful immunohistochemical reagent for identification of melanomas and melanocytic lesions.1-9
